I saw mom this morning.
She seems a little better every day. I stress little. She is drinking regular liquids now and eating soft food.
As opposed to thickened liquids and gruel. The PT ,Randy, says she is getting better every day.
He said he thought that she'll be leaving Thursday next week.
She also said that she's glad she had six kids because she feels that she's being well taken care of.Nice going guys!

I forgot to say yesterday;
mom has been doing a bit of socializing. She had breakfast and lunch with a man that is also in rehab for a stroke. Maybe dinner too, I don't know.

Sue, when I was there yesterday I went to rehab with mom and I overheard Randy, the PT, say that mom will go to Alexian on Thursday , maybe sooner or maybe later depending on when a female room opens up. I asked him if that means mom will be sharing a room. He said he didn't mean to say female. I wonder if he slipped up or if mom will indeed have her own room.
I hate computers. It took me almost an hour to write this.
next time I might just call ya all.

The Blog is a great idea! And what a great family!

I hope that this is not an abuse of this blog site but I just heard the news.
John Elway died and went up to heaven.
St. Peter met him at the gates and told John to follow him to his new home in heaven.
When they arrived St. Peter showed Elway his new home. It was a tidy little ranch home with a perfectly mowed lawn and the house was painted in the colors of the Denver Broncos.
It was really neat, but then John noticed the house next door.
It was a huge three story stone castle with a fifty foot flagpole in the front yard. A packer flag was flying proud at the top. The castle trim was painted green and gold and every window had a cheese head looking out.
John was confused. He said to St. Peter that He was a super bowl winner. He was in the hall of fame. Why does Brett Favre get a bigger place than he gets.
St. Peter told him that the castle was not Bretts house, it was the Lords house.

This blog site sucks!!! It never wants to let me in! And the word verification is bs also!!!! Now that it took me 15 min to get in here!!! AAARRRGGGGGG!!!!!
K I'm vented....
I saw some tax returns from the late 50's to early 60's by the sump pump! Try the basement under mom's bedroom or start going thru the mess in her bedroom! They could be anywhere! Good luck!

Jack, There are 2 big bags in the basement that can go to the dump.
And if you need more the metal cabinet at the bottom of the stairs is full of can goods from who knows when!

Hi guys,
Just got back from seeing mom.
She's about the same.
Jane washed and set her hair so mom looks good.
I took mom a couple of bottles of yogurt smoothies , she loved them.
She drank them like I used to drink beer. They were gone in no time. If you take some to her , she likes raspberry if you can find it.

Nanu Nanu

susan said...

Saw Mom at lunch time...she Had a HUGE (even i could not have eaten it all)...fruit salad and could not eat it all
Jack thanks for the info on the smoothies..they are probably easy for her to eat
Mom seemed OK but tired and her leg hurts. MJ tells me she fell again trying to get out of bed by herself
she talked about how awful it is to have something like this happen to her but was accepting...but then she told me she was going to sleep at her Weil St house tonite! - that's where she grew up! and she though she and i could go visit auntie mary this afternoon. so she is in and out of confusion.
MJ also said yesterday she was stronger in therapy trying to stand etc but today she could hardly move in therapy cuz her leg hurts (I think cuz she fell)
tomorrow she has the Alexian interview.
I will not be able to go tomorrow but will drop off her application for Lasata...
good joke Jack!
GO PACKERS!

Was so sorry to hear about Sophie. All of you are doing a wonderful job taking care of her. It was good to see again, although it was unfortunate to be under these circumstances. I hope to go see her again soon after she gets settled. Ray, this was a good idea...keeps me updated without having to bug you and Judy all the time. Thanks.

I visited with mom in the late afternoon on Sunday the 20th (3 till 5). She was tired and was complaining about here right leg pain. The nurse gave her some meds and that seemed to help but it made her even more tired. She mentioned that she was have some time/memory issues. She seems to realize that her memory is a little confused. I think this is intensified by being tired.

I also stopped at the house to look for recent tax returns without success. I will make one more search before going to the IRS to get copies.

Sue, you indicated you had not found mothers will in th esafe deposit box. I did find a will she apparently made in 1983. I have not read it through as of yet but I did take it and plan to put it with here other important papers and tax info that I have.

Bob and I saw Sophie last night. She was in a class learning about strokes when we got there. She commented how interesting it was. She didn't eat much last night. Her dinner was not that appealing. Hope Alexian has a better menu. She seems to be looking forward to Alexian on Wed. Her nurse commented that Sophie will be missed!

Mark and i moved sophie todayher new phon # is 414-357-5332
she had to sign a bunnch of forms..she signed her name good (has to use her left hand) in the morn but in the aft she was tired and it was not so good
she did sign the "do not resusitate"
the bills will be mailed to Bob
her room is covered for the 1st 100 days by medicare excpt that it does not pay the $25 extra for a private room
If she goes to the hospital she ahs to pay 85% of the $280 to hold the room as medicare willl not pau if she is not in the room
We can bring in furniture and pictures....I think pictures 1st then maybe her 2 red chairs but we should wait til she gets pretty settled and they finish her evaluation
the doc will see her 1x a month
i asked to be put on the list for the podiatrist and the eye doc. they come in 2x a week
She can get her hair done 1x a week for $17...MJ is doing it now but in the future i think this will be great gift for us to give her.
I sat with her at lunch...i thought it was good but she did not care for it and was getting really tired. she lives her cranberry juice. we should all make sure she has water or juice to drink when we are there cuz she has to drink more liquids.
I was pleased to see how good she could maneuver with help in and out of the wheelchair to the car...she can move her legs and can push herself to stand with help...yesterday the PT said she took 6-7 steps with his help.
I drove her past her house and the town club and st eugenes...she said how beautiful everything was in the snow...then when we driving past brown port she said "aren't we going to go past the house?'' she had forgotten we had driven by and stopped and looked at the house just minutes earlier....
when you drive ther go into the HEATH CENTER parking area... at nite and on weekends you will have to use the phone in the vestibule to get buzzed in...
Mwlissa and Sarah are coming in this weekend ..maybe we will se you there
I am exhausted good nite

Visited Mother this evening. She was tired and stated that she did not participate in all activities today. She seems to know that she is struggling with memory issues and is not happy about her disability from the stroke. I tried to encourage her to keep working to become a little more independent. She wanted to talk about going back to her house to help go through all her stuff. I told her thaty she may be able to do that in a few month but that she would be limited to the firdt floor since she would not be able to navigate the stairs.

Sue had been here earlier in the day and Judy and Shelly Grosch came just before I left.

Sat in that meeting with Jack and Sue yesterday, Thursday (1/31). PT telling mom her goal should be to walk with a cane. Recommending another 4 to 7 weeks of PT to strengthen right and left leg. Podiatrist may need to get her foot fixed before she can finish the PT is she is to try to walk.

She is still having swelling in her right hand and the nurse was going to make sure she has th ehand gloved in the near future to keep the swelling down. SHe is also complaining about pain in the right hand and in her neck. Nurse was going to put her on Tylenol 3x a day for pain.

Jane has been doing a wounderful job on mom hair and she was looking good.

Yar is dislexic for Ray.

Saturday Night at Alexian Village....Bob and I must be getting old. Sophie and Mary were having wheelchair races in the hallway when we arrived. The nurse reported that Sophie slid out of her wheelchair while trying to reach in her closet earlier tonight. They checked her our and she was alright. Bob complimented the help. We had a nice visit with Sophie and Mary. Sounds like we were Sophie's highlight of the day...Bingo apparently got cancelled today:)

Anonymous said...

Judy...We were there on Sat morning and Sophie was playing bingo???? Mom and Mary are kinda funny talking about old times....Mom had a huge smile on her face when she was playing bingo!!! I think her being around other people is a huge change for her and takes her mind off what has happened to her....we walked in the bingo room and she said "Oh, Jack and Holly"

We wheeled them to lunch and went to the house....I shoveled the sidewalk and we took some crap with us.......

Bob/Judy said...

Maybe we should go back to writing in a journal when we come to visit...that way we can help Sophie remember events from day to day. It's called reality orientation and it might help with her memory.

Anonymous said...

Well seeing as your the expert your in charge...Will she read it?
Will she remember to read it? I don't know.....Aunt Mary's mind seems to be pretty good. My be she can remind Sohpie to read the journal?????? So who won the wheel chair races????? Hows my bro???
I don't see him post on here?
Did you watch the big game last night? I thought it was great the Giants WON!!!!! Say hey to Bob.
Blog on!!!

susan said...

ok looks like i can get it working now...
this is soooooo frustrating writing all this stuff 2x

Let me know about sunday

Remember I will out of town Feb 17 - March 1...In sunny Mexico...can't wait as we wait for the next blizzard tonite.

susan said...

hello...to answer Ray's question...
Mom has expressed to me very strongly that she would like to pick out some things from home...pictures, clothes, furniture, etc. she really wants to do it herself, soon and i think it would be unfair to ask her to wait til Palm sunday (that is the next sun i am available) as that is over a month away.
bob and judy are going to help me pick her up and do the "car transfer'' with me (I am going to learn how to do it on Fri at mom's PT session)
Jack and Mark...I hope you can get the place plowed out and Judy suggestted you try to move mom's car out of the garage so we can pull right in with my car and get the wheel chair out to do the transfer. Her car keys are hanging above the stove...maybe you can turn up the heat a little too...
I will pick up ham and rolls and her fav chicken salad for lunch.
we are picking her up at 11:30 and will meet whoever can make it at noon. I know it is supposed to very cold but I think we need to seize the moment as I do not think it is fair to ask her wait another 5 weeks.
we will be moving the furniture on sunday ...just picking it out
Hope you all survived the BLIZZARD! jack was at the airport this morn and drove home cuz his flight was cancelled...he said it was ok cuz no one was on the roads...
We then took a mile snowshoe walk before the high winds started...it was beautiful!
Just found out we got 20" here!!!!
keep Warm

susan said...

I meant to say we will NOT be moving the furniture on sunday...just picking it out

susan said...

WE CAN MOVE FURNITURE IN ON SUNDAY IF WE WANT!
sorry about the confusion....I went to learn the car transfer today and Jack H and I had lunch in the cafe with her ...she loved the brat and saurkraut and the NA beer. it was good to see her enjoy the food and enjoy herself...the cafe is really inexpensive and jack and I enjoyed the rueben sand
Still have not heard from JACK G AND RAY...are you coming on sunday? June is picking up ham & rolls...
See you on sunday...
